Sexual Violence -- Early Age

The Center for Disease Control reported some recent findings on sexual violence.  The article states that 30% of rape victims are assaulted between the ages of 11-17.  Twelve percent were 10 or younger.  After the release of these findings it was stated that "prevention efforts should start early."  You can read the article here:

Rape Has Long-Lasting Health Effects

USA Today recently reported some findings on the long-term health effects of rape.  The article went on to say that one in five women (in the study) reported that they had been raped.

Feedback on Recent Training

Dave Lockridge and Jason Culver held a training recently.  Here are some words of feedback they received when the training was complete:

~ "I have a greater understanding of how to work with [the children I serve]."
~ "I have gained a greater understanding of my role/responsibility as a teacher."
~ "Thanks for all the quality information."
~ "All the information was insightful."
~ "Thanks a lot for this very interesting presentation.  I can't think of anything to improve.  You know how to talk about a very sensitive topic with insight, respect, and humor.  I thoroughly enjoyed today."
~ "Dave, you did a great job explaining how to overcome the cycle of adverse childhood experiences.  The presentation of the material was great."
~ "I absolutely love this training.  By far the best I've ever been to.  I like the mini-ACE survey.  I plan to go home and have my family fill one out.  All the information I have received is wonderful.  I feel blessed to have been able to participate in today's training.  I also enjoyed all your jokes."
~ "The information was well organized.  The comedic overtones made a serious topic much more palatable.  The intervention strategies are practical and useful.  Great use of real life examples to demonstrate the concepts."
~ "This would be a great training for all elementary, junior high, and senior high school teachers!"

If you would like to host a training in your area, please contact Dave directly

You Are Beautiful

In the ugliness of abuse the after-effects are long-lasting.  They are like the searing sting of a branding.  ACE seeks to rewrite that damage with a new future--something beautiful.

I found this video to be profoundly beautiful.  Enjoy this brief video.  Maybe it can bring healing to a seared spot in your heart.

Dinner 2011 Update

Our first ever ACE Overcomers Fundraiser Dinner was a huge success.  Thank you to everyone who came, everyone who volunteered, everyone who donated something.  We could not have put this together without you.  The food was wonderful, the conversation was excellent, the presentation was profound, the testimonies were amazing.  The whole event was just plain spectacular.  Thank you, again.  I will leave you with just a few images of the event:

CDC - ACE Study

In the link below (the image) you can find the ACE Study located on the Center for Disease Control website. Using the links to the left (in the blue area) you can maneuver through the data, the statistics, the demographics, and more.

The bible study that we facilitate was developed after these findings were discovered.
